Giusepppe Torelli
The Original Brandenburg Concertos

Charivari Agréable

"The entire texture takes on a density that hasn't been heard in these works before, and the very precise, lively lines forged by keyboardist and director Kah-Ming Ng make the music into something kaleidoscopic instead of shapeless."

All Music Guide

“a full-bodied, warm sound and an eloquent style … at their best, the sound produced by these musicians has a definition and sweetness which is rare north of the Alps.”

The Consort, Summer 2010

Giuseppe Torelli was one of the most important composers of the Italian Baroque, being among the developers of the Baroque concerto and Concerto Grosso. This disc marks the tercentenary of his death with a selection of Torelli's concertos written for his employer, George Friedrich II, the Margrave of Brandenburg- Ansbach.

Continuing their extensive catalogue with Signum Classics Charivari Agréable, under the direction of Kah-Ming Ng, is one of the most versatile Early Music groups around. The ensemble specialises in the ingenious use of period instruments to produce "ravishing sonorities and full-bodied textures" (Gramophone Magazine).
