a leading, independent classical record label

John Potter

John Potter's musical activities have taken him into many styles and periods. Through more than eighty recordings, he is best known for his performances of Renaissance and Baroque music, but he is also very much involved in contemporary music. Many composers have written works for him, and he has premiered works by Berio, Stockhausen and other leading contemporary figures. He was a member of Swingle II and a co-founder of Electric Phoenix; is now a member of the Hilliard Ensemble and Red Byrd; and has recorded for ECM, EMI, Hyperion, Harmonia Mundi, Teldec, Saydisc and CPO. Recent recordings with both the Hilliard Ensemble and the Dufay Collective have featured in the classical charts. His book Vocal Authority has been published by Cambridge University Press, and he has become a lecturer at York University.
